UNIV2115: Digital Literacies and Documentary Media

Course Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Recognize the value and significance of their own experiences in terms of the selection of a documentary topic and research sources (including personal interviews).
• Appreciate the selection and revising of a topic in terms of a process of ideas, personal interactions, and research processes.
• Critically evaluate research sources for inclusion in an annotated bibliography and integration into a documentary film.
• Work within a critically planned timeline for the editing and completion of a documentary film.
• Work independently and collaboratively to complete a documentary film.
• Understand fair use and copyright ethics and practical applications of them.
• Master sound recording and editing to provide sound that does not detract but enhances the viewer’s engagement of a documentary film.
• Master digital editing software in order to edit a documentary film of 6-8 minutes in length.
